Placentas contain many nutrients that can help new moms energy, lower the chances of postpartum depression and anxiety and increase milk supply and iron and B-vitamins levels.
Benefits of consuming your placenta include:
- Stimulates milk supply to come in faster
- Creates more milk supply
- Gives the mother supply of lost vitamins and nutrients
- Reduces anemia by increasing iron supply
- Helps prevent postpartum hemorrhaging
- Minimizes postpartum bleeding
- Helps prevent baby blues and postpartum depression
- Gives mom energy and strength
- Allows mom to sleep better
- Helps physically recover from birth
I do a raw flash frozen preparation of your placenta for the purpose of consuming in smoothies. I will pick up your placenta at the hospital (or your home), prepare it for you and come to your home within 48hours with a bag of frozen placenta pieces. They typically last 3-5 weeks (depending on the size of your placenta and how often you consume them). I will instruct you on how to use them and make suggestions for preparing your own smoothies. If I am also providing postpartum doula services I will be happy to make your smoothies for you.
One of the main reasons your placenta is so beneficial after birth is because it is rich in the following hormones:
Gonadotropin: Stabilizes mood and lessons uterine cramping.
Prolactin: Encourages lactation and increases milk supply.
Oxytocin: Encourages bonding, increase let-down reflex. Decreases pain and counteract stress hormones.
Thyroid stimulating hormone: Boosts energy and helps recovery from stressful/traumatic events.
Cortisone: Combats stress and releases energy stores.
Interferon: Stimulates the immune system to protect against infections.
Corticotropin Releasing Hormone: Helps prevent postpartum depression; low levels of CRH are found in women with postpartum depression.
Prostaglandins: Anti-inflammatory and encourages uterus to return to its normal size.
Hemoglobin: Replenish iron stores, helping to prevent anemia.
Urokinase Inhibiting Factor & Factor XIII: Stops bleeding and facilitates wound healing.
Gammaglobulin: Immune booster and helps to protect against postpartum infections.
Human Placental Lactogen (hPL): Promotes mammary gland growth and regulates maternal glucose, protein, and fat levels. *
