My name is Ashlee. I am a Licensed Massage Therapist, Doula, Lactation Consultant and Ayurvedic Practitioner.
I grew up around pregnancy, childbirth, and babies. I come from a large family and spent my childhood watching and learning from my aunt who is a homebirth midwife. I have memories of playing in her office as a child. My cousin and I would take turns pretending to be pregnant, checking our PH, listening to each other’s heartbeats and using her Doppler to hear our imaginary babies' heartbeats. I’ve always had an interest in women’s health and traditional medicine, so it’s no surprise that I ended up working with families around the childbearing years.
Education & Experience
I have been a Licensed Massage Therapist since 2005. I specialize in prenatal and postpartum massage as well as Ayurvedic bodywork. I am a certified prenatal massage therapist and have all the props and pillows to make massage while pregnant and postpartum safe and comfortable. I love working with expectant families during pregnancy and in the early postpartum period. I truly believe nurturing the mother should come first in nurturing a new baby. It is important that the pregnancy, birth and early postpartum is a time when the mother is supported as the support she feels then has lasting effects.
I spent five years working and studying at The Ayurvedic Institute, Where I was privileged to work in the Pancha Karma Center under world-renowned Ayurvedic physician, Dr. Vasant Lad. I was lucky to have spent a few of those years studying with Dr. Claudia Welch before she left. My time at The Ayurvedic Institute informs the work I do today with women's health and the childbearing years. One of my favorite treatments to give (and receive!) is the warm oil Ayurvedic massage called Abhyanga. This is wonderful for all women needing a reset and rejuvenation, but is especially nurturing and restorative in the first couple months postpartum.
As a massage therapist I also enjoy doing integrated deep tissue work to alleviate chronic pain as well as incorporating more subtle therapies such as acupressure, cranial-sacral, and aromatherapy to relieve stress. I have worked in three top-rated spas in the country and have trained under exceptional teachers.
I am an active doula and lactation counselor taking 2-3 births a month. I love educating women and families on their choices and helping them achieve an empowering birth. Breastfeeding support and education is also a passion of mine. In our modern world we often don't see enough of it and just hope for the best. In my experience learning and planning some before the baby and having enough support in the early days and weeks really changes long term success with breastfeeding. I have trained through DONA (2006) and CAPPA (2014). Breastfeeding educator workshop in 2014 and The Center for Children's Lactation Counselor program in 2016. I have taken childbirth education classes with Birthing From Within as well as multiple CAPPA faculty. I am certified in Rebozo techniques and in acupressure specific to pregnancy, birth and postpartum. I have taken Spinning Babies workshops and classes to learn how optimal fetal positioning in pregnancy and labor can lead to a happy pregnancy and an easier birth.
Fertility wellness and conception planning is a new love of mine. I enjoy working with all backgrounds and types of families. Including single women and the LGBTQ community who are looking at their options in starting a family.
I have additional training in many modalities including: nutrition, anatomy and physiology, yoga, aromatherapy, herbs, fertility and am certified in infant CPR. I love working with women whether in the childbearing years or not to help them achieve their optimal health.
When I'm not at a birth or giving massages etc. I enjoy traveling, learning more about women's wellness and being in nature with my family and puppy.
